If you have followed this procedure properly, the synthesizer should be safe to work on. If you can't reach the terminals of the caps (often the case), then find another part of the circuit that is directly connected to each terminal, and short to that point instead. The idea is that you are using the screwdriver to safely short any charge on the capacitor to ground. If the cap is charged, you may see a spark. Touch the tip of the screwdriver to each lug of the cap while touching the side of the screwdriver to the metal chassis or something else grounded. Take a long metal screwdriver with an insulated handle. Make sure the chassis is grounded to something. They will usually be located near the power supply.įirst, don't touch the circuit anywhere because parts could be directly connected to the capacitor. These are what you need to bleed the excess charge from. "Big" meaning big for a circuit component- like 3/4 inch or more in diameter and more than 1.5 inches long.
